Nintendo's console sales increase because of the hit title, Animal Crossing: New Horizons. The game is a life simulation which lets players escape to a deserted island and create their own world. Nintendo expects to sell around 20 million Switch consoles and 150 million Switch games this year. The large portion of these sales can be attributed to hit titles that appeal to a wide audience of gamers.
Despite the COVID-19 pandemic, or perhaps because of it, the sensational game Animal Crossing: New Horizons sold over 11.77 million units as of March 31st. Even only with ten days-worth of sales data, the popular game already made its way to the seventh-best-selling Switch title – and it doesn't seem to be stopping there.

New Horizons is faithful to its traditional gameplay. The game follows a real-time schedule, which means that shops close and opens at a particular time of the day, and the citizens need to sleep at night (while nocturnal ones sleep during the day). Going out of the virtual house and greeting your talking animal neighbours is a big hit, especially during the lockdown. As a result, the game sold more units during its release than any other Animal Crossing game in the franchise, and even more than any Switch title to date.
